The production of tomatoes in pots and containers – 4 Tips

I've been growing tomatoes in patio containers and pots this year with some success. Also I liked my plot with tomatoes in the ground. I know that those on the ground will have no problem – have done for thirty years. But growing my tomatoes containing output is new to me.

The comparison between the pot grown tomato and land.

I grew two varieties of this source earnings per year and an Italian cherry tomato variety. I do not remember the name but was released with a magazine. I planted the seeds in March 2008 and has grown in my greenhouse pots 6 inches. As always, I have grown tomato plants and gave 20 minutes. I have planted as 2-3 feet tall plants in early June and a month later, took the first tomatoes. Now in late August, I still have many benefits to recover what has been a good year. Plants grown in containers have had similar results, but I realized only two differences.

First Moneymaker tomatoes were slightly lower than those grown on my land.

Second were not as many cherry tomatoes in containers.

Other results were very similar. The flavor is excellent and uniform texture color and very attractive. For the container grown tomatoes that I made a different treatment and a little more attention.

1. Sure to tomato plants in a large saucepan.

I like the root system with plenty of space and not become pot bound. It is also necessary to have a big bowl deep enough to support the stems. I use clay pots clay level, but a large bowl and will no problem.

2. Water your tomatoes even if it rains.

We had a terrible summer in the United Kingdom this year and it rained constantly. I always found that the pot grown tomato plants were wilting a bit if not I check them for watering. Plants do not need of the garden. The reason is that the leaves of tomato plants to divert much of the water in the pan. very little water reaches the roots of plants. This is why we check them every day.

3. Be ruthless with pinching side shoots on the tomato plants.

I pinch once or twice a season when growing tomatoes in the ground, as they seem to do very well. I learned this by trial and error. Moneymaker plants pinched pot a once a week to ensure that the fruits that I was big enough and juicy enough. I never bother pinching cherry tomatoes. They take care of themselves and always give plenty of harvest.

4. Remove the foliage more once you have the fruit.

I always that for tomatoes and do not know where I found this tip in place. After setting all the tomatoes on the plant leaves his hiding away the fruits of sun. I prefer the tomatoes to ripen on the plant, which helps to accelerate the ripening process. Remove tomato leaves also provides a slightly larger.

If you missed this tomato season then I encourage you to plan ahead for your tomato crop in 2009. Grow some in pots and containers and on the ground. They are great fun and raised in a sunny spot you have.

Why my cherry tomatoes ripening so small?

I have a huge cherry tomato plant, a great big beautiful miracle plant grow using and watered a lot, but it is super small tomatoes ripening. They are the size of a fingernail pink! I tried one and well, but really useless. There tons of flowers and new start to grow, but I fear that all this would just become so large and mature, without being so large Cherry least. Oh, and I have a lot of sun, some shade at certain times, the ideal of truth and not my first tomato. They are planted in the ground and I have pretty good support too! They are the size of 1 / 4 inch, which are the size of grape tomatoes at all! They have a lot of water …

You probably only a bad plant, a species or hybrid or variety, and that the family or lineage has happened to production of small fruit. Continue to give food and water and the sun and the only hope that the next will be greater. A little trick to get a lot of tomatoes too, I hear it, even at midday and just shake the plants a bit, takes pollen (supposedly, I did not check) to fall in on itself and create more fruit.
